Link BaitMuch to the surprise of woman from Newfoundland, Canada, the pain she was suffering on New Years Eve turned out to be a labour pains as she was only minutes from delivering.

Juanita Stead, a woman from Port de Grave, Newfoundland went to the hospital as her back pains worsened on New Years Eve.  After an x-ray was taken, Stead was told that she was about to have a full-term baby.  “It was quite a shocker,” Stead said in several media interviews.  “I went through nine months without seeing a doctor.  I had my regular mentrual period every month, and went through the full nine months without even being sick — never put on [any] extra weight, wore my regular clothes, everyday clothes.”

Her baby, Nicolas, weighed in at 7 pounds 12 ounces.

Well, you must be asking yourselves now how this can be an article on a blog about Marketing, Business & Technology news?

In using this article (which is true, you can verify the story here), I have employed a technique called Link Baiting.  My hopes in doing so is that it will not only attract visitors to my site, but will eventually attract links to my site as well.  I’ve used the story as a “bait” to lure visitors.

When used correctly, Link Baiting can be an effective Internet Marketing tool and can definitely boost traffic if it becomes viral.

Update: Since publishing this article, I received emails from several people indicating that my marketing practices leave something to be desired.  A few individuals were disgusted that I would use this method for obtaining links.  A few others have commended me on my use of an effective link bait to draw attention.  If I truly had wanted to obtain links from this method, would I have provided the link to the actual article?  I was illustrating a point.  Some individuals have to learn to relax.  Link Bait is an effective way to attract attention, and to bring people to a site if the headline and article are written in a way to attract visitors.

Would I utilze this type of story for a client?  Definitely not!  What webmasters must keep in mind is that the link bait must be written in such a way to draw attention, attract traffic and build a following.
