Expressvu (Bell) HD Subscribers to Receive Free Receiver Upgrades

by Barry Wheeler on March 2, 2009

Bell Expressvu LogoBell Expressvu Satellite TV Subscribers with first generation high definition (HD) satellite receivers are about to receive free HD satellite receiver upgrades.

With Bell scheduled to change the way it delivers its satellite signal on April 1, 2009, subscribers to Bell Expressvu Satellite who were early adopters of HDTV using the old ExpressVu 6000 HD receivers will have their receivers upgraded to the new Expressvu 6131 HD satellite receiver free of charge.  The old first generation HD satellite receivers will stop working as Bell Expressvu switches to a new signal modulation scheme called 8PSK.

The move to provide customers with free upgrades to the newer HD Satellite receivers means that existing Bell customers will not be left without HDTV as the new signal standard is implemented.  The new 8PSK signal modulation will allow Bell Expressvu to offer more HD channels while using less bandwidth.  It does however, leave the older Expressvu 6000 HD receivers useless.

Existing Expressvu customers will begin receiving letters notifying them that their existing satellite receivers will no longer function after April 1, 2009 and that they will receive a free receiver upgrade with the company’s new Expressvu 6131 HD receiver.  No other satellite hardware is affected.  All other satellite hardware is capable of handling the new HD signal modulation 8PSK.
