Hydrogen Cells have the potential to provide alternatives to automobiles based on carbon based fuels. Hydrogen cell or fuel-cell vehicles have been researched extensively in the last few years, especially after President Bush announced Hydrogen Fuel Initiative (HFI) in his 2003 State of the Union address.
What is a hydrogen fuel cell? Fuel cells generate electrical power quietly and efficiently without pollution. There are no carbon emmissions as with fossil fuels and the only by-product from hydrogen fuel cells is water and heat.
Within a fuel cell the chemicals hydrogen and oxygen are converted into water and in the process, electricity is produced. With hydrogen being on of the simplest and most abundant elements in the universy, this opens endless opportunities for generating endless supplies of clean energy.
While not readily available on the market just yet, there are several hobbiests who have designed and installed their own fuel cells for use in their cars.
I discovered this interesting video on YouTube, and thought I would share it with you.
Obviously someone with a little knowledge and probably a whole lot of time on his hands has built a hyrdogen fuel cell for installation in his car. The fact that this is being done shows the potential that exists with fuel cells.
Will hydrogen fuel cells soon replace fossil fuels? Who knows, but I do admire this guy for trying to make a difference. This is definitely being a true geek if there ever was one!
