Obsolete HD DVDs Exchanged for Blu-Ray

by Barry Wheeler on April 26, 2009

Blu-Ray Disk LogoBlu-ray has won the HD DVD format wars, leaving many people left with obsolete HD DVD movies.  However, a new program now will allow those people with obsolete HD DVD format movies to exchange them for blu-ray movies.

The exchange program, Red2Blu allows those with Warner Brothers HD movies to upgrade them to the blu-ray equivalent for $4.95 per title plus shipping and handling.  The original HD movies were packaged in red and blu-ray movies are packaged in blue, so it’s a cleverly named program.

While the program is not completely free, it does provide HD DVD format holders and opportunity to trade-up their favourite Warner Brothers movie to blu-ray for a nominal fee.  There is no word if other studios will be offering the same exchange program for obsolete HD DVDs.
