Today marks the re-launch of my personal blog and it is both an exciting and a scary time. It is a whole new beginning for my online efforts and will be a major shift in how I approach my online presence.
The changes made are definitely not minor and will no doubt impact my search engine traffic, my search ranking and a lot of the SEO efforts I’ve put into building my site these last few years. It wasn’t a decision that was made lightly because of the potential impacts it would have.
Gone is the Thesis theme. Gone are the old site name and tagline “Marketing, Business and Technology News – Where Geeks Can Be Geeks”. Gone are approximately 40 percent of the articles I had written over the last few years.
The content didn’t really mesh with where I wanted to be as a blogger and did little to engage many of my readers.
Making the decision to remove that much content gave me butterflies but it was something that had to be done to provide more opportunity for me to learn what makes a great blog.
In this redesign I’ve opted for a new template, new linking structure, new site name and new tagline.
The new site is simply “Barry Wheeler – Blogging for Success” and will contain content aimed at those interested in learning about the social internet, its implications on all aspects of society (both personal and business) and how to leverage this into a successful online presence. There will be still the occasional “geek” post whenever I get a new toy, find something interesting or discover something that I feel will benefit anyone who reads my site.
Some have criticized me in the past for my opinions and have indicated I am at times a little too negative or too harsh. I have kept those criticisms and comments in mind while planning my new direction.
I hope you like the new design and the new direction. If you find something that isn’t working as you think it should, please drop me a note and let me know.
