Building a Profitable Website – Configuring WordPress

In my last lesson in the series Building a Profitable Website, I talked about installing the WordPress blogging software.

Continuing with my Building a Profitable Website series, I will talk about installing and configuring some WordPress components that will be used to enhance your profitable website.

WordPress when installed comes ready for you to begin developing keyword rich content necessary to attract search engine traffic.  It is however, not quite ready for you to use for making money online.  You will need to install some key WordPress plug-ins that will enhance your new profitable website.

WordPress plug-ins are add-ons that extend the functionality of the blogging platform with additional features or enhances an existing feature.

When building a profitable website, I find the following plug-ins are at a minimum required:

  • All-in-One Adsense (by linewbie) – Provides a method to earn revenue from Google ads
  • All-in-one SEO (by Michael Torbert) – Enhances  content making it more search engine friendly
  • Sociable (by BlogPlay)- Allows readers to share content across social networks
  • WordPress Database Backup (by Austin Matzko) – Allows for on-demand backup of your WordPress Content

In the dashboard for your new profitable website (typically accessed through, you should see on the left-hand navigation bar the menu item for plug-ins.  When you click on this you will be presented with an option to search plug-ins as shown below.

Search for the plug-ins required and once identified, click Install next to the plug-in (extreme right side of screen).

WordPress will automatically install and activate the plug-ins.

Some of the plug-ins will require some additional configuration but the documentation provided and the plug-in authors have provided extensive material as to what is required when configuring these.  The most important plug-in initially during your content creation will be the All-in-One SEO plug-in.  This will enhance the content of your profitable website and will be discussed in a later lesson.

Read about the various WordPress plug-ins mentioned.  Install the plug-ins.
