After writing an article Upgrade Your Receiver with and External Hard Drive I have received many comments and emails about which type of hard drives will work with the Expressvu receivers. For those people who have external hard drives hooked to their Bell Expressvu receivers, drop me a note and tell me which hard drive you are using.  I would like to start a list so … Continue reading

My New Kodak Zi6 HD Camcorder

I was looking for a new pocket Camcorder that was comparable to those offered by Flip Video.  I had tried the Flip Video camera and while it was OK, I was not impressed with the 640×480 resolution that it offered.  I then stumbled upon the Kodak Zi6 HD Pocket Camcorder and thought I would give it a whirl. The local business supply shop had the … Continue reading

MoviePix MP5A4 Digital Video Camera

Tonight was an interesting night.  I purchased a MoviePix MP5A4 Digital Video Camera, something that was not my first choice in a digital video camera, but we all do things we regret later. Setting out to buy a digital video camera that would allow me to take some quick digital video, have decent quality and that wouldn’t break the bank when buying it.  My first … Continue reading

Windows XP – Delayed Write Failed

It’s getting a bit annoying receiving the message “Delayed Write Failed” when working on my laptop.  The exact message being displayed when I can read the error message is “Delayed Write Failed: The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.“  Unfortunately, the only option available is … Continue reading

My son’s Acer Aspire Laptop was having trouble.  With a corrupt hard drive and his final exams just a few weeks away, I started the process of restoring from his Acer Aspire System Restore DVDs that we had built when he had gotten his laptop for Christmas 2007. Restore Failed – Reason 0xa000000e.  Not a good sign at 10:00 pm at night.  My first thought … Continue reading

Data Backup – Don’t Trust Your Host

Do you trust your host to backup your data or do you backup your own data?  In several of the webhosting forums that I visit, I have read that many webmasters trust their host to backup their data.  In fact, most hosts will advertise backup services but is this something that you should trust your online business to? The obvious reasons for performing regular data … Continue reading

No Valid Disk Belonging to the Disk Group Was Found (C1000096)

It was an ominous error message - No valid disk drive belonging to the disk group was found (C1000086).  A colleague of mine had ran into some trouble with a computer system.  Windows XP was constantly rebooting without showing a desktop and all attempts at recovering the operating system drive proved uneventful.  The operating system drive had failed and I had replaced the drive without incident. Data loss was … Continue reading

Expressvu (Bell) PVR – Upgrade Your Receiver with an External Hard Drive

Why buy the Expressvu 9242 PVR Plus Receiver $699 when you can buy the much cheaper Expressvu 6141 HD Receiver for $299 and turn it into a PVR for under $100.  Let me explain. During one of the Boxing Day sales I purchased a 46″ Sony Bravia 1080P HDTV and upgraded my Bell Expressvu Satellite receiver to a Bell Expressvu 6141 HD receiver.  My choices … Continue reading
