There is no Next Big Thing

Many people jump into making money online hoping to develop the next big thing or develop a strategy to help them get rich overnight.

In the online world there will always be something better, bigger and faster.  There will always be a new gimmick, new make money online method or a more profitable way to develop your online businesses.

Making money online isn’t impossible.  There will always be a new site, a new system and new technologies coming online.  However, as a blogger you will probably not be developing the next big thing or the next kill application.

Regardless of how many times you read about the 16-year old who developed the killer-app, the killer site or the next great social networking tool, there are millions of more failures you don’t hear about.

There are no shortcuts.  There are no gimmicks.

That doesn’t mean you can’t make a decent living online.  It does mean you have to look at well proven strategies to make a living.

I was a little late jumping into the world of making money online.  I was quite comfortable with my career path and made a very good living consulting and running several businesses.

Since making the transition online, I’ve tried just about every program I could find.  I’ve read hundreds of books and invested in hundreds of systems.  Every thing I read told me what I was doing was wrong because every one of these resources wanted me to believe if I purchased their program, ebook, membership and manual, I would get rich overnight.

I was always trying to look for the next big thing that would make me rich.

The only thing I learned was there is no easy way to get rich online.  There is no next big thing.  It isn’t about having a system or a gimmick.

Making money online is about hard work and determination.

What I have discovered through the last year the amount you earn is directly proporational to the amount of effort.

Being more focused has given me a little more insight into what works and what doesn’t work.  My earnings have stabalized since Google Panda, some of my search results have improved and the quality of my sites have increased.

What’s your thoughts on coming up with the next big thing?  Do you think you’ll get rich with a scheme or gimmick you’re developing or is it all about hard work?

    Good point, Barry!

I believe that there is no big thing for me, personally; however, I do not claim that others don’t have it, as well. There will always be people of that “16-year old kind” who get rich instantly.

Others must work hard, indeed. Over a time one won’t even pay attention when his work is something that many people like and enjoy. It will also provide him with good money and some people will even call his work the next “Big Thing”… 🙂

Your blog speaks the truth. Hard work combined with a strong belief and a never give up attitude is critical. Keeping your eyes open for opportunity and going with your gut is the method. 90% hard work, 10% good fortune – the 10% comes from believing in yourself and your idea despite what people think or say. Good original ideas are rare….

    Hey Barry,

I totally agree, when I first started, I thought since I’ve played an online game for many years (World of Warcraft) and understood pretty much anything about it, that I would be able to create a site and drive traffic to it and make money off Ads…BIG MISTAKE, people never visited my site, they preferred to read about new things in current sites that were already implemented for years and popular.

My site was a total disaster and I didn’t make 1 buck….so I quit for a while then I decided to come back but this time I made a blog and taking it slow.

I started to see a decent amount of traffic coming in and hopefully it will continue to increase till I reach the level where I can earn something online.

There are no shortcuts as you said, just takes hard work and the ability to build your name among respected bloggers/site owners.

Thanks for sharing bud good post. 🙂

    • Sayed,

I have many sites that never made a dollar! I worked my butt off trying to make inroads. It just didn’t happen. When I stopped thinking about the “Next Big Thing”, I started making some great money online and haven’t looked back.

      Thanks for stopping by.

Totally agree that you have to have a lot of determination, if your going succeed. I’m thinking that could be a good solution in the beginning to come up with more than one blogs, so you can evaluate more efficiently what’s working and what’s not.

You make a lot of salient points. People need to know that making money online follows all of the same basic principles of business. The great thing though is the ready availability of a worldwide audience.

    Thanks and great post.

    • Hey Mike,

The best approach is the simple approach. When I stopped thinking about making the next Facebook, Twitter, etc, I started making some money. Haven’t looked back since then. Hard work and determination is doing it for me (and some luck!).

      Thanks for stopping by.

  7. Making money online is not impossible – This is absolutely true. However, everyone must be made aware of the fact that making money online is not easy to do. Those who claim that they have become rich in a matter of 2 days or 1 week only and then sell you something like a system (in which they say had helped them earn big bucks instantly), then it is most definitely a scam.
